by Editors of Boys' Life ‧ RELEASE DATE: Sept. 1, 1963
Knowing by this time exactly what appeals to boys and aiming dead level at the average audience, the editors of this magazine cannot be accused of any vestige of belief in the reading ladder theory. The aim is to satisfy a hunger for the exotic mystery cum adventure and if it's one step up from the comic book sequence, it's quite a few stairs below talented storytelling or polished writing. To say that the stories are derivative is not enough. They are as far removed from the greats that inspired them as their every reader is from Adam. One final burst of cynicism to evaluate the market -- the audience is the same that will graduate to a satisfaction with television's ""vast wasteland
