MURDER TO HOUNDS

A good yarn, fast hitting, keen dialogue and a number of unusual factors in both crime and setting. A Virginia estate, owned by a Northern millionaire, the overhanging tragedy in the fear of insanity, conflict in personalities, and a will that recognizes two and disinherits two others. There are two deaths, one apparently discovered by the hounds (a theory quickly disproved), and there are plenty of red herrings. The whole picture is complicated by too many detectives and pseudo-detectives, including an attractive but irritating Englishman of mysterious origin. Publishers place it in the Sayers' school. Perhaps, by deductive reasoning and pace, but there is no character that comes clear as does Peter Wimsey and his inestimable Bunter. However, he is an interesting newcomer in the field.
