by Edward Candy ‧ RELEASE DATE: July 6, 1984
Buyer Beware time again. Unlike Bones of Contention (UK 1954, US 1983) and Words for Murder Perhaps (UK 1971, US 1984), this first Edward Candy mystery was published in America when it first came out--in 1954, by Rinehart. It may, therefore, be already sitting on some library shelves. If not, it's a fair bet for fans of the most traditional sort of English mystery--with rivalries and blackmail among medical researchers and a jumble of somewhat dated psychiatry. But it lacks the clark witty comedy of the other Candy entries, featuring instead an earnest, rather labored ploy. (The 1954 Kirkus review called it ""full blown,"" meaning, in context, a bit much.)
