Ah Sputnik! and what hath the Russians wrought? A stepped-up curriculum in highschool, junior highschool, elementary school and a bestseller about how to get your two year old into the college of your choice, that's what. And all those earnest, honest parents who worry that the new math doesn't allow them to outfigure junior, who may or may not be able to read (but he better, faster!). Since parents probably came in at the tail end of the science surge, or not at all, Mr. Edelson's short and persuasive survey of the current mode in science teaching together with a digest of the courses' content may be used by any adult as a self-teacher. But the parent is well-served throughout with lists of books to read, magazines to subscribe to, scholarships to investigate and tips on motivation that go from educational toys to proper attitudes. It's a much more readable book than any the spate of parents' guides to the new math has yet produced and the potential audience is about as big as the P.T.A.
