THE CRYSTAL MAN

SF historian Sam Moskowitz has unearthed a hitherto anonymous 19th-century writer who may indeed have influenced the development of the genre as Moskowitz claims but whose cheeky wit and stylish prose make his stories a pleasure apart from learned debates in which sci fi mavens may wish to engage. Here are an invisible man, a benevolent ambulatory shrub, a mutant with a narcotic glance, demons of varying potencies, a teleportation device and more. Editorial selectivity is conspicuously absent but this anthology offers real satisfactions.
