These ""Selected Readings"" from some thirty well known socio-psychological analysts have been compiled, not to provide ""direct guidance on specific personal"" questions or ""scientific"" information. Rather they have been chosen by the editor, a sociologist, to represent diverse opinions, admittedly ""weighted toward unconventional"" views, in three primary areas: changing sex standards; changing women's roles; and birth control. The introduction alerts the reader to the reversal in emancipating attitudes and standards made possible by contraception and then by women's increasing financial independence. Simone De Beauvoir, Bruno Bettelheim, Albert Ellis (!), Engels, Marynia Farnham, Paul Goodman, Alan F. Guttmacher, Kinsey, Halinowski, Marya Mannes and Margaret Mead, Bertrand Russell, Alva Myrdal, Pitirim A. Sorokin are among the better known cicerones and chaperones of present day moral issues within the broader social context.
