Fictionized story of the romance of Robert Schumann and Clara Wieck, with a gallery of the musicians of the Romantic School as background. It is a story stranger than most fiction, -- Clara was only eight when she first met and loved him, but for years the fanatical determination of her father kept them apart. Schumann's escape from the law, his finding himself in his music, the crippling of his hand which wrecked his career as a pianist and made it as a composer, the overbrooding fear of insanity,the checkered career in love -- and eventually, marriage to Clara, though it was necessary to go to the law to break the father's hold. Well done, though primarily for the music-minded audience, while others will find the romance sufficient reason for the story itself. To many, Eleanor Painter is known as a former musical comedy star.
