Again Mrs. Lattimore writes of a Chinese child caught in the midst of the War. Fleeing with a friend of her family with whom she has lived since her parents were drowned in a flood, six year old Peachblossom finds refuge in a school for girls, and there the wife of the doctor discovers that Peachblossom is her own niece. This story lacks the spontaneity of The Questions of Lifu and others of the Lattimore books but it is, nevertheless, a welcome addition to the easy reading books for the younger children for its plot and adequate characterisations, and is interesting for the present day setting.
