Wonderfully spooky legends- some with familiar themes- give a feeling of the real Korea- as Kim Su-ik, a peaceful scholar, is bewitched at midnight when a spirit takes his wife's form and he does not know which is witch; as pennllens Yi Chang goes to live in a haunted house and makes friends with the ghosts; as Kim Slang, a henpecked husband, finds a magic pear and solves the family's financial problems. And the oriental charm of Taro Yoshima's pictures reinforces the delicate imagery of the tales. Definite anthropological value.
