MYSTERY AT BOULDER POINT

Good entertainment, but an odd and not wholly credible blend of ghost yarning and haunting with a mystery of secret coves and hidden treasure. The setting is the rocky north shore of Massachusetts (by process of divination), and the characters include a motherless girl and her doctor father and strict New England aunt; newcomers at the fishing community, a young artist, his blind sister, and his widowed mother, and a boy from the native fishing community. Martha is gifted with second sight and is singularly level-headed about her visions of a square rigged ship, but terrified when she encounters the ""ghost"" of a 100 -year dead Mooncusser and he suddenly disappears. When Kathleen's family security in the Barnacle is threatened, Martha's determination to protect them leads eventually to unravelling the mystery -- though many mad adventures intervene. Plot far-fetched though good reading; dialogue uneven and ragged.
