by Elizabeth Bentley ‧ RELEASE DATE: Sept. 24, 1951
Another apostate tells her story of participation in the Communist party- and severance, from the time when in 1934 she found herself ""alone and frightened"", and found the vista of a brave, new world through the companionship of a few friends and eventually Party membership. As in the Hode Massing book, you will either have to accept that Elizabeth Bentley was as even downright stupid- as she claims to have been, or you may suspect that she is presuming on your naivete. In any case, this follows her through her activities in the Party in New York and Washington; her love for Timmy- who turned out to be Yasha Golos (V.I.P. in the Party)- who later turned out to be a member of the Russian Secret Police; and to the very slow realization that the American Party was taking its directives from Moscow, her thorough disillusion and break as she turned evidence for the F.B.I. As a story, this has more drama than the Hade Massing. It is obviously a political hot potato and suspect in its latterday remorse and recantation.
