by Elizabeth Cadell ‧ RELEASE DATE: Jan. 12, 1967
This is one of Elizabeth Cadell's vaguely unspecified entertainments, somewhere between mystery and romance and also spanning two continents. It assembles, happenstantially, Mrs. Stratton, recently widowed and the author of a first best-selling novel; Gail, who works for her publishers and is asked to accompany her to a house in the Basque country; Mrs. Westerby, Mrs. Stratton's sister-in-law, an outlandish if not outrageous woman who has battened on her; and her godson (the romance). They all keep bumping into each other and Mrs. Westerby's motives seem most suspect until the final confrontation.... Sort of soothing--like consomme.
