by Elizabeth Corbett ‧ RELEASE DATE: Sept. 1, 1967
Over the hill and into the valley of death with Harry and Alice Martin, who figured in the earlier The Heart of the Village (they run a bookshop) and The Crossroads. Once again we visit with their friends and callers at the bookshop, with Bess who writes greeting card Verses as Well as poetry, with Emil, who has a heart attack, but mostly with Alice as Harry fails, after two operations, and dies of cancer which should put a geriatricidal end to this continuity... Alice always reads the books she sells in their bookshop since you can't ""tell too much either from reviews or from publishers' blurbs."" She's right--disregard the former and discount the latter.
