This book was published in 1918, when the basic principles of the epoch-making progress in invention in this century had been discovered and great progress already make. Now the book is completely revised, with some wholly new chapters on such subjects as radio, television, the movies, and a rewrite job on others, introducing new applications of old principles, new relationships, new devices. Inevitably there are some limitations imposed by this method, but Hylander has done as good a job as could be done, and the book has made a place for itself too valuable to be sacrificed. The lack of index is its most serious fault.
