by Elizabeth Howard ‧ RELEASE DATE: Oct. 7, 1964
When sixteen-year- old Verity accompanies her cousin Una to Providence Colony in the West Indies she does not know that a Spanish attack upon the island will save her from a dowerless, loveless marriage to an ugly old man. Flight north to New England aboard a small shallop shows, Verity to be a sturdy sailor and a great help during a storm. Tangled romances are sorted out and her prospective marriage to an English-speaking Dutch carpenter with a future life in Captain Whitney's settlement north of Boston brings the book to a happy ending. Miss Howard handles her plot and background well, although there is less depth to this novel than some of her earlier work.
