I liked this story immensely, and the publishers have made an attractive looking book out of it, though there is something about the studied artiness of Susanne Suba's work that I do not like. It is a story of an orphan girl who is handed around among various members of her family until, with one uncle, she finds a real home. The setting is Detroit and neighboring village communities, 100 years ago, and into the story the author has woven an immense amount of information about manners and customs and clothes and parties -- all the things girls of today might like to know about girls of yesterday. The story is a good one, with a touch of mystery, a touch of romance.
