NO MAGIC, THANK YOU

Gordon Porter carried a lucky seed. Debbie Forbes carried a lucky stone. Because of these talismans, both were pulled away from Saturday chores by a magic flute song. They met in the empty school yard where they were to act as the champions of the olfin Rublucks -- guardians of good luck signs. The Rublucks were confronting the Unlucks, their enemies from time immemorial, who were forever trying to control magic through bad luck. Gordon, a first rate elastic band twanger drew a bead on the little Unlucks. Three expert shots with three elastics and the war was over, the Unlucks routed. Another trill on the magic flute and all memory of the incident was swept from Gordon's and Debbie's minds. Although it's very easy reading for 3rd and 4th graders, readers won't need any magic flute to completely forget it. Black and white illustrations by Carrett Price are good humored and inconsequential.
