A fairly microscopic review of a favorite author's life, which, in its coverage of all aspects of her personal and literary career, should be of definite interest to her many followers. There are all the facts of her family, immediate and distant relatives, of the small happenings in the household at Stevenson, the life in Hampshire, the very early writings and the gradual progress to the mature works. Each book is examined in detail, and each facet of Jane's life scrutinized fully; the result of circumstance and personal choice is shown as it is expressed in her novels. There are letters, and other documentary inclusions, which add to the general knowledge of Jane Austen's life and the whole offers as thorough a coverage as is currently available. While there is no feeling of particular brilliance, it is satisfactory to have such a meticulous, attentive biography.
