Mordicai Gerstein's cartoons, which we admired in Levy's Nice Little Girls (KR, 1974), are an eye-straining red and generally less attractive here, and Levy's feminist message is similarly blatant and distastefully packaged. ""Something queer,"" as Amy the amateur detective puts it, is the disappearance of Jill's Rusty McGraw bat, without which she just can't pull off her usual star performance on the diamond. Jill becomes annoyed with Amy for suspecting others on the team of stealing the bat, and we tend to side with Jill--but then it turns out that teammate Marshall did indeed take it since he was jealous of Jill's superior playing. If the cast were all male the weakness Of not nastiness) of this silly business would be evident to all.
