Australian Hugh brings his out-of-doors animals in -- a kangaroo, a koala bear, a wombat and a jackass bird. The best is hardly good enough for them -- the jackass bird gets a regal cage, the platypus a bower with wall-to-wall carpeting, the koala bear a whole closet to himself complete with eucalyptus plant, etc. This is rhymed realism, for the wild ones don't take kindly to luxury and each seizes his chance to leave, paying unwanted kindness with household havoc. Hugh can't believe they like the uncertainties and discomfort of the bush until he sees them all in their element --happy and playful (like the rhyme).
