by Elizabeth & Mara Miller Levy ‧ RELEASE DATE: Sept. 1, 1979
Of the six politicians included here only two, Tom Hayden and Bill Bradley, are well known. Oddly, Levy and Miller seem to feel more obliged to question Hayden's continuing conviction than Bradley's commitment to ""people"" and ""change."" Others featured here include South Carolina's lieutenant-governor Nancy Stevenson, who is liberal on issues but genteel in manner; Colorado state house representative Polly Baca-Barragan, a Chicano who is also liberal but emphasizes other issues to her mainstream constituents; Buffalo assemblyman Arthur Eve, black and humane; and ""revolutionary"" Moises Morales who is running for sheriff of Rio Arriba County, New Mexico, with a strong sense of justice but a less well-defined program. The authors (who collaborated on Doctors for the People, 1977) state their own support for ERA, the right to abortion and social services, and their opposition to the death penalty. From this frame of reference all six subjects pass muster; otherwise the profiles haven't much thrust or charisma.
