FLOWERING DUSK

An impressionistic, beauty-drenched memoir of the life of the now 70-year old Irish poet, mystic, mythologist and revolutionary, Ella Young. It is not a narrative; it tells no dramatic story: yet in a series of short, staccato chapters, it evokes in an inimitable way, Miss Young's childhood, her early associations in Dublin with ""AB"", with Yeats, Synge, the Abbey theatre, her enthusiastic pursuit of Gaelic and Gaelic legends, her immersion in ticiam and ancient lores, her dedication to the Irish movement, and finally, because of the tragic death of most of her Irish associates, her self-imposed exile to America in . she lives -- lecturing in connection with the University of California -- writing -- associating with choice spirits of America's litera. The tone of the book is evocative and nostalgic. Anyone who has say e, however remote or sentimental, with the Irish cause, will welcome this book, for without ever being precise history, it calls forth all the familiar thoughts and emotions of the great Irish ing between 1912 and 1922, all its passion for beauty, for saintliness, for spirituality, along with all its more foolish and flummery trappings.
