This is good escape reading one of those adventure stories in which the story takes precedence over the factual content and local color. A war story based on authentic data concerning Commando activity, details of the training, the men, the purpose, this is a Heming righted love story against the planned anti-Nazi raids in Norway. Nicole and Alan have met and loved -- and now she is guiding force for the warfare in her Norwegian town, in constant communication with the Commando base in Scotland. Alan and his fellow commandos, well-informed by her knowledge which she obtains largely through her German lover, raid and raid again, and it is Alan who is sent to kill the lover when his suspicions of Nicole can no longer be allayed. She learns his identity and aids his escape. They seize what little time is offered them for love -- then they part -- he to kill her lover and escape, she to live an alibi and continue her precarious work for her country. Good yarn, timely (if a bit turpitudio-).
