CHILDREN OF THE FOREST

The miniscule forest world--and the pictorial milieu--is that of When the Root Children Woke Up but whereas the Olfers has a spare narrative to offset the embrace of Mother Nature, this has verse after quaint cloying verse: ""With fat and croaking bullfrogs they play beside the pond. The biggest one's a friend of baby brother Tom; When Teem gets a spanking or hurts his foot or hand, The nice wet frog consoles him, and soon again he's calm."" ""They"" are of course the children of the forest, less tomten-like than elfin, and it's only the most complaisant child who'll sit unsquirming through their frolics, however winsomely pretty the pictures.
