THE LIFE WE PRIZE

Professor Trueblood has won for himself a large following among Protestant church people. They have learned to expect from him a deeply spiritual analysis of the situation confronted by modern man, and valuable suggestions on what they can do to meet it. All of this is couched in language replete with telling phrases and quotable sentences. In the present volume Trueblood addresses himself primarily to those to whom religious faith has little meaning, but who are concerned that the American way of life he preserved in the present conflict with communism. This can be done, he asserts only we preserve and fortify the basic ideas underlying American democracy. These ideas he delineates in chapters headed ""The Demand for Meaning"", ""The Acceptance of Responsibility"", ""The Achievement of Freedom"", ""Respect for Persons"", ""The Classless Society"", The Basis of Integrity"", ""The Necessity of Boldness"", ""The Response to Suffering"". Only in the final and summarizing chapter ""A Basic Faith"" does the author lay down specifically religious principles. A valuable book for all those concerned with the present world struggle and who want to go to the root of the matter.
