When the author revised and expanded Margaret Pumphrey's Pilgrim Stories (1961 p. 1007, J - 323) she found that the twin limitations of space and scope prevented her from including a number of stories that merited telling. The stories come from the years between 1621 and 1691 and, while dialogue has been inserted, the stories have been authenticated. The 70 years covered was a time of settling in and settling down. The government and business of Plymouth Colony depended to a great Squanto and of Miles Standish are particularly well-told. The sense of immediacy, noted in our review of the 1962 book, is once again present in full measure. A final chapter discusses with great clarity for younger readers the ""Books about Pilgrims"" that are the primary sources.
