Kiss Wyck, ""the Laughing One,"" is a Canadian painter who has set down these recollections of her childhood days some fifty years ago among the Indian villages of the British Columbian coast, and of later days when with dog and sketchbook she went into wild and lonely places in search of Indian subjects. She sees and records with the accuracy of the trained and sensitive artist, and the tales of old, old totem poles in deserted villages, of Indian cemeteries with their air-washed, sun-cleaned bones, the Indian friends themselves, especially the women, of the elementalness of the country, vigorous and moving, with poetry in the telling. A book that must older girls will love, and a book which should be introduced to some of your adult customers as well, for the material and the personality will interest any age.
