A new edition of this book, which appeared first in 1944, is reissued with drawings in black and white by Lee Ames. Our earlier report said, ""A good plot, nicely paced and a dramatic picture of Washington and his starving, shoeless army. Gilbert Emmet and his sister Jenifer grew up in Philadelphia while the 13 colonies were fighting for survival. Before leaving on a secret mission for General Washington, their father closed his comfortable home, buried the silver in the cellar, and sent his motherless children to visit an aunt in Valley Forge. During the memorable winter of 1777-78, the children saw something of the sickness, the dirt, the misery that beset the Continental Army, while the British roistered in the City of Brotherly Love and the American Congress dawdled.
