ON THE STAKED PLAIN

Good adventure yarn, rather oblique in the telling, but effective nonetheless. As good and better than the majority of the Westerns written for adult consumption. The story of a Texan lawyer's daughter who yearned to be a detective, and who persuaded her father to let her unearth some unfinished cases from old files. She found one to her liking, and thereupon stirred up a regular hornet's nest. There is mystery and excitement aplenty before the case is once again closed. It takes several throwbacks to the original story, fifty years back, to fit all the pieces of the puzzle together, but they emerge finally as a convincing yarn.
