Ohio authors and Ohio publisher get together on a warm homey handling of stories from the lives of Ohio's historical figures, and Ohio incidents. Patient research and a strong sense of locale give special flavor. There's the story of Henry Dillingham, the Buckskin Scout, who carried messages on his horse Checkerboard and watched for signs of Indians on the road between Cleveland and Fort Avery. There's Mary Bird Lake, brave Revolutionary nurse, honored by George Washington, who nursed through a smallpox epidemic in Marietta. There are stories of Tecumseh, famous Indian chief and of the struggles of French and English for the Ohio River Valley. And-bringing it down to today- there's a tale of the Wright Brothers and their first kite. The stories give a feeling of being told in the vernacular. Good for regional use especially.
