Several other editions of the story are in print, but this lively, attractive introduction--with a brief, straightforward text and illustrations by a stage designer--is worth a look. Crespi's figures are both toylike and balletic, her backgrounds sketched with the deceptive ease of a graceful, perfectly controlled dancer.
