A callow modern girl finds herself caught in a web of uncertainty, when the little English -- woman who gives her aspirin on the train, following a sunstroke, disappears as if by magic, and is denied by her other fellow passengers. Gradually, through the stories of each of them, the reality comes to life. An exceptionally good first novel.
