In format this looks like an Easy Reading book. Actually, some of the Scottish place names and terms may cause some stumbling. Perhaps second year reading is its right place. Duncan was new come to the Highlands, and the city hadn't trained him to meet Highland lads on their own terms. He didn't know how to climb or jump or run as they did. And he was afraid- and lonesome. But he had native grit, and little by little he overcame his fears, so that when the real test came he made good. This is a difficult book to appraise with only the text, for evidently the pictures (in 3 colors by the author) are worked into the very pattern of the text layout. As a story, it has more meat than the average easy reading book.
