HELEN

Helen is another one of Cunningham's unfathomable women--is she a slut or a saint? Anyway to Blake Eddyman, her lawyer, there seems to be more than one false card (her police ID) in the deck which is stacked against her when she stands trial for the murder of the prominent judge she admits she killed. And even though Helen is impassively impervious to the fact that she will hang by her beautiful neck, still the reader will be involved. Perhaps more involved than really satisfied--the resolution is deliberately muzzy.
