One of the best matter-of-fact stories of colored children I remember reading. The story with its might be true atmosphere tells of a group of colored children in a rural community where the one room school's sessions are gauged to the need of the parents for the children's help in the cotton fields. There's no artificialty in setting or details; they are just a group of normal children with simple wants and joys and sorrows. There's enough of humor to lighten the story.
