A journalist and columnist, writing for Canadian papers, she made her headquarters in the Balearic Islands, of the western Mediterranean, and has captured the feel of the people of Formentera in the story of small Belinda's pursuit of a doctor to mend her doll. Belinda, though Anglo-American in parentage, had grown up in this Spanish-speaking region, and all the islanders accepted her as their own, so her adventures were tenderly supervised and reported back to her mother, as she- and her little sister- followed the doctor from one part of the island to another on a day long pilgrimage. Six year olds would love this read aloud- but the vocabulary suggests second and third grade level of difficulty.
