THE LITTLE LEFTOVER WITCH

Nothing is more endearing than a good little girl unless it's a naughty little witch, if that witch is mischievous and not wicked. And the little witch in this story who gets left over from Halloween, despite her refusal to comb her straggly hair, despite her reluctance to bathe, becomes very precious to the family of Lucinda Doon who adopts her. Gredually the naughty little witch accepts her human family and without so much as a flourish of a broomstick becomes Mary Lucinda George, witch-adoptee. Florence Laughlin writes with remarkable inventiveness, taking every opportunity, through the imaginative manipulation of details, to create a story and characters which are touching, funny, and full of surprises.
