THE SCARLETT LETTERS

A rooty-toot report by the wife of composer Harold Rome on their Oriental junket when they were involved with a Japanese production of a musical version of Gone with the Wind. Intermingled with Mrs. Rome's journal of mischances and happy surprises are letters to marverous friends (Mrs. Rome is one of those occidentals who admire Japanese difficulties with our very own ""I""); Jerome Weidman and Richard Rodgers and the wives, Arthur Kober, etc. And we have reports on difficulties attendant on getting this particular show on the road -- ailing stars, last-minute costume alterations, stalemates over cast selection, etc. There are also personal matters, such as apartment hunting and taxi trouble, that Thanksgiving when she woke up ""achoke with Motherhood,"" and sociality -- ""Ingrid (Bergman) is marvelous and so damned beautiful. She is ye compleat ladle."" Srush.
