Wonder Tales of Horses and Heroes(1952, P. 188)was similar to this second collection of retold folk tales from many countries by Frances Carpenter. Selecting a wide variety of stories that she is presenting as new material hitherto unpublished in America, the author makes a nice collection for the special interest. A sampling of the tales includes a story from Lapland about the first dog to befriend man, a Latvian story about the enmity between cats and dogs and the reasons for it, another Latvian story of a hunting cat, a Siamese tale about a cat with a crooked one- and many many more.
