BLESS YOUR BONES, SAMMY

A turn-of-the-century trifle that revolves--counterclockwise--around Grandma: Sammy worries that she'll go to Idaho to help widowed Aunt Minnie, frets when she leaves, pines for her after she's gone, and cheers up when she returns. Sammy looks to be about ten though there's no telling, and he has a mild assortment of mishaps (like overturning a butter churn or swallowing a plug of tobacco), each of which Gran understands and assuages with poundcake or peach cobbler, but there's really no reason for his overdependence (and some reason to think she's been babying him). Several disconnected incidents (lost dog, classroom flirt, itinerant photographer) help pass the time; bone-rattling bad grammar passes for dialect.
