by Frances Fullerton Nailson ‧ RELEASE DATE: N/A
A story of the jungles of Dutch Guiana (South America) and of the friendship between Mocha, a boy of the jungles and Terry, whose father was head of a scientific expedition. Their friendship grew in spite of hurdles put up by ignorance and superstition (on both sides), and ultimately out of it came a deeper and greater friendship which stood the test of greed and so-called civilization, when Terry's father realized that proclamation of the discovery of gold and precious stones in a secret cave would mean the end of the tribe's way of life -- and he kept the secret. The illustrations by Avery Johnson, stipple and woodblock, make this a beautiful book. It is good adventure as well.
