There's an intangible charm in this story of a young American girl, equipped to meet the buffets of fate, and the havoc she wreaks when she enters the quiet backwaters of a tiny French town where her mother, many years ago a rebel, but in maturity a conservative, her step-sister, and the immature young artists, Miranda and Luke, Live, secure from reality. The theme which dominates Rose Franken's book, Twice Born (see page 18) is a minor thread here, with a different development, a different emphasis. None the less, it is there, and for these who shy clear of the facts of homosexuality, this book might give offense.
