Poor (fat) little rich girl Gretchen suddenly finds herself surrounded by new friends when her parents install a swimming pool. Beautiful (nasty) cousin Janice spread the word that the gang's all welcome any time, cokes and refreshments on the house. Literally inundated by teenagers all summer long, Gretchen remains grateful and uncomplaining to the point of simple-mindedness but is finally appreciated for herself alone. It need not be added that she gives Janice a rousing come-uppance, sheds enough weight to become a regular beauty and finds Romance at the summer's end. Another straight dose of sugar for an age group that needs more substantial fare.
