THE PASSIONATE APPETITE

The Passionate Appetite, one of those occupational hazards, is guaranteed to take inches off your mind while adding pounds to your vocabulary. Miss Pinckert (Knight's Landing--1967) apparently teethed on the dictionary and is likely to come up with ""edible agarics"" or ""agrestic obligatos"" or ""silvics studies"" and she has a whole private PX of exotic foodstuffs which line the pages. Turning them, inattentively to be sure, they seemed to have something to do with an analyst (masseur-hypnotist) called Beau who with his friend Carl picks mushrooms later prepared and served to another kind of dish, Fanchon. Carl leaves Fanchon for dead in the bathroom, overcome by intestinal spasms and some other sort of experience. Later he wanders, thinking of revenge, and so does Miss Pinckert through all kinds of dreams, spells, conceits and assorted ""betises."" . . . . ""Every thought has a right to be born especially in extremely perilous peripeteia"" but a second one might question why. Anorexia anyone?
