FRONT MAN

Johnny Stone returns to his alma mater to be the youngest head coach in America and finds the major football squad torn by the new deal at the University. For football is being turned into big business, the fixers are moving in, and tycoon Gitlin is set to run things his way. But Johnny makes the game his, puts the gambling joints out of bounds, revamps the team from the T to the single wing formations, and gets the cooperation of the fabulous freshman, Stan Coates. Besides the games -- won and lost -- there is the handling of Gitlin's daughter, firebrand Penny, Johnny's secretary, Ruth, and of the scandal when Stan's uncle is murdered, when the team breaks bounds and makes the jail. Johnny's mousetrap plays get him kidnaped by the syndicate, the team works its heart out for the missing coach -- and right triumphs over might. Rough and tumble and ready for currently distasteful disclosures in the sporting worlds.
