**Many American Catholics do not appreciate fully the meaning of certain passages in the Gospels and are not moved deeply enough by what they read. This is due partly to the fact that they have become too familiar with the formalized expression of the customary translations, to the lack of a sense of concordance among the writings of the four Evangelists, a failure to grasp the events and sayings of Jesus in proper temporal sequence, and bewilderment before certain ambiguous, obscure or meaningless passages. To such the present volume is highly recommended. Using the Kleist-Lilly translation from the Greek, the compiler has here selected the events and sayings of Jesus from the four Gospels and arranged them into a continuous chronological whole. The translation renders many passages unambiguous and meaningful, that in other translations remain obscure. The style, while not being commonplace, is simple and almost colloquial in spots. As a result, there is a freshness about the Gospel narrative as presented here for which many will be grateful. Imprimatur.
