To this retelling of Bible stories for adults, Frank Slaughter has brought the experience in writing novels rooted in Biblical times (i.e. The Galileans. The Song of Ruth, The Thorn of Arimathea). In the present volume, with retelling of many of the best loved stories from Old Testament and New, he has used a popular story form, and a layman's idiom for easier comprehension. To this reader, there is a kind of heaviness due to the loss of the matchless rhythm of the Biblical text of the King James version, or even R.S.V. Such retelling is often the only way to get through to younger readers, but since this is strictly designed for adults, it seems an unnecessary addition to the mass of such popularizations. However, Frank Slaughter's name and sales record will doubtless operate in favor of this new volume, so the book should not be overlooked. Perhaps it belongs in the general section rather than the religious book section of your store or library.
