The murder of a Hollywood fan mail secretary leads missing-heirs-investigator Tom Alder on a search for two women: heiress Doris Delaney who disappeared 22 years before when she was 16, and pregnant; and a mysterious Hungarian beauty, Nikki. The chase takes Alder back and forth across the country and down the years to the revelation of Doris' sordid background and the startling denouement that these two ladies share the same identity in common with a Honolulu prostitute who also happened to be Alder's long lost love. And the murderer turns out to be a movie idol equally adept at creating roles off-screen. The pace is fast but the footwork is precarious and so is the fantastic to foolish plot.
