HOW TO GET INTO COLLEGE

This one is a doggedly clarifying question-and-answer manual. Information on college admission preparation (courses in high school, guidance, advanced placement, etc.); the whys and wherefores of testing; main varieties of institutions and corresponding requirements on test scores, all aspects of the process of admission including acceptance procedures, transfers and college aid. Military service and foreign study are also discussed. A gap or two might be mentioned; more should have been said about the actual timing and spacing of achievement tests and no distinguishing mark denotes male and female colleges. However, there is a useful rating of institutions by character attributes, and as a step-by-step introduction to the mysteries of college admission helpful for a dry run before tackling the standard encyclopedic classics, Lovejoy and Fine.
