STEPS IN TIME

A fairly laconic, matter of fact account of a sturdy career in show business, moving pictures, radio, is short on the glamour stuff and long on the ways in which the Astaires together, and then Fred alone, became the tops. From Omaha, and an early beginning as child troupers when Adele's ability was enough to create an ""act"", this follows the ins and outs of bookings, performances, and receptions from the small time circuits to the lay-off while they both did a bit more growing -- and schooling; and then the break into musical comedies which led them to London and eventually Adele's marriage. There are the producers, the writers, the composers; the opening nights; the flops as well as the successes; Fred's development as a solo performer; the first moving pictures and his dancing partners; radio and his recent wow in TV. His happy marriage, friends, dance ideas and productions, his love of horses and racing and his turf experiences, and many family incidents are all part of this story which is amiable but perhaps less spectacular than his expert hoofing.
